On March 7, 2009 the belongings of the Usa Family were up for auction. The effects of patriarch Donald, his wife Thelma, their children Don, Dick and Judy, grandchildren Jen, Brian, Mike and Emily, and great-grandchild Matthew were to be sold to the highest bidder. Those in attendance were given money for the auction and told that they were allowed to touch and inspect all items on the tables. At 11pm the auction was canceled and the viewers were told to release their money.

The Usa Family Estate was the second collaboration between artist
Erin Gallup and musician Scott Weiser. It was the fourth aggregate art work in Gallup's series.

The project was a life-sized diorama of America's current economic identity crisis, with a storyline told through the belongings of a fictitious family. Each family member represented a specific type of American persona and their objects spanned the spectrum- older generation's items were all hand made or made in the US and all of the younger generation's items entirely made in China. Much as the Usa family faces the auctioning off of their belongings to strangers with Chinese backed US dollars during the show, the USA family must now face the reality
of the instability created through its dependence on goods produced overseas and through its economic model based on consumption.

The musical score and accompanying video presentation were unique to that evening and could never be repeated in the exact same way again. They were generated through a system created by Weiser which programatically layered and altered original music, sound and video components.
